J & Y Advocates LLP has practised on the criminal side in Gujarat since 1987. The firm appears before the Supreme Court of India, High Court of Gujarat, High Courts of various States, the Sessions Courts, the Courts of Magistrates and the Special Courts constituted under the various special statutes, and advises at every stage from the registration of a first information report to appeal.

The first meeting is used to read the papers rather than to give an opinion. What we usually need at that stage is the first information report or complaint, any notice or summons received, the remand and bail orders if there are any, and a plain chronology of what happened, prepared by the client in his own words.

We then set out, in writing where the matter warrants it, what the position appears to be, what the available applications are, what each is likely to achieve, and what it will cost. Where the honest answer is that an application is premature or misconceived, we say so at that stage rather than after it has been filed and rejected.
